GF42.45-P-5119RC Electronic Stability Program Control Unit Component Description

GF42.45-P-5119RC Electronic Stability Program control unit component description

Component Identification:

Location
The ESP and BAS control unit is located in the left front of the engine compartment.

Task
The ESP and BAS control unit has the following tasks:
^ Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
^ Evaluating input factors
^ Control of functions
^ Actuation of components

Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals

The input factors are read in with the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ Vehicle dynamics CAN
^ Drive train CAN

Direct line
The following components are read in via a direct line:

- BAS diaphragm travel sensor (A7/7b1)
- BAS release switch (A7/7s1)
- ESP pressure sensor 1 (B34/1)
- Left front rpm sensor (L6/1)
- Right front rpm sensor (L6/2)
- Left rear rpm sensor (L6/3)
- Right rear rpm sensor (L6/4)
- Right front brake pad contact sensor (S10/2)
- Right rear brake pad contact sensor (S10/4)

Vehicle dynamics CAN
The ESP and BAS control unit reads in the data from the yaw rate, lateral and longitudinal acceleration sensor (B24/15) via vehicle dynamics CAN.

Engine compartment CAN
The ESP and BAS control unit reads in function-relevant information via the engine compartment CAN.

Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the affected components are then actuated.

Actuation of components
Components are actuated with the following lines:
^ Direct line
^ Engine compartment CAN

Control of functions
The ESP safety system incorporates the following functions:
^ Electronic Stability Program
^ Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR)
^ Engine braking regulation (EBR)
^ Anti lock brake system (ABS)
^ Electronic brake force distribution (EBV)
^ Brake Assist (BAS)
^ Tire pressure loss warning (without code (494) USA version)
^ Cruise control (with code (440) Cruise control)
^ Variable speed limiter (without code (494) USA version)

Actuation of components
To implement the above-specified functions, the ESP control unit actuates the corresponding components via the following lines:
^ Direct line
^ Engine compartment CAN

Direct line
The following components are actuated via a direct line:

- Stop lamp actuation via rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2)

Engine compartment CAN
The ESP and BAS control unit transmits requests for function-relevant actuations via the engine compartment CAN.

Variants
A distinction is made between the following variants:

- Basic variant
- Vehicles with speed-sensitive power steering (with code (213) Speed-sensitive power steering)
