Control Arm Bushing: Service and Repair

UPPER CONTROL ARM
1. Raise rear of vehicle and support at rear body crossmember.
2. Remove upper control arm rear and front pivot bolts, then remove control arm.
3. If control arm axle bracket bushings are to be replaced, refer to Figs. 2 and 3.
4. Position upper control arm into side rail bracket, then install front pivot bolt. Do not tighten bolt at this time.
5. Raise rear axle until upper control arm rear pivot bolt hole is aligned with hole in axle housing, then install rear pivot bolt. Do not tighten bolt at this time.
6. Position suspension at curb height. Torque front pivot bolt to 70---100 ft. lbs. on except 1982 models, or 100 ft. lbs. on 1982 models. Torque rear pivot bolt to 100 ft. lbs. on 1982 models, or 80---104 ft. lbs. on except 1986 models.

LOWER CONTROL ARMS
1. Remove coil spring as described under ``Coil Spring, Replace.''
2. Remove lower control arm front pivot bolt and nut, then remove control arm.
3. Reverse procedure to install. Torque front pivot bolt to 100 ft. lbs. on 1982 models, or 80---104 ft. lbs. on except 1982 models. Torque rear pivot bolt to 70---100 ft. lbs. except 1982 models, or 100 ft. lbs. on 1982 models.
