Certain 1984-model California Mustang and Capri vehicles equipped with the 5.0L high-output engine (calibration 4-21P-R00; engine code XK-333-AA) and five-speed manual transmission.

Description of Condition and Correction

Ford is voluntarily recalling approximately 4,000 of the involved vehicles to help assure acceptable levels of emission control. Correction will consist of replacing the existing distributor modulator valve switch assembly with a revised assembly; this component is a vacuum operated switch in the thermactor system. As an added measure to help assure proper emission system function, some engine compartment inspections are required. Any concerns identified as a result of the inspections are to be corrected.
