LOCK - FRONT DOOR - WILL NOT OPEN WITH KEY

Some vehicles produced before 1/31/86 may have door locks that will not open with key. This condition is caused by an interference between the anti-theft shield lower leg and front door lock cylinder rod. To correct this condition, rework the box section of the lock cylinder rod by opening the lower leg to 5.0-8.0 mm loop opening.

(See Figure 3.) This rework will permit the rod to move to the unlock position without interference with the latch anti-theft cover (reference Shop Manual, Section 44-16 for removal and installation instructions).
1. Bend open the lower leg to achieve 5.0-8.0 mm opening.
