Oil Level Check

NIPPONDENSO
1. Operate compressor for ten to fifteen minutes at maximum cooling to stabilize system.
2. Discharge system and remove compressor from vehicle. Remove drain plug and measure the amount of oil drained from the compressor.
3. If less than three ounces of oil were drained from compressor, add six ounces of refrigerant oil to drained service replacement compressor.
4. If between three and six ounces of oil were drained from compressor, the oil is properly distributed throughout the system. Add an equal amount of refrigerant oil to drained service replacement compressor.
5. Never add more than six ounces of refrigerant oil to a replacement compressor. Never install a replacement compressor containing more than six ounces of refrigerant oil. Clean refrigerant oil should be added to the following replacement components:
Evaporator 3 ounces
Condenser 1 ounce
Accumulator 1 ounce

MOTORCRAFT, TECUMSEH
These compressors have no provision for accurately checking oil level on the car. Periodic inspection of oil level has, therefore, been eliminated from installations using these compressors. Oil level check performed with the compressor removed from the vehicle should be made only under conditions of severe oil loss caused by a compressor oil leak, broken refrigerant hose, or a rupture from crash damage. The affinity of Freon 12 and refrigeration oil and the design of the compressor will prevent a full oil charge from being contained in the compressor.
