1. Connect a suitable spark tester between coil wire and a suitable ground, Fig. 3.
2. While cranking engine, check for sparks.
3. If spark is observed, start circuit is satisfactory. If spark does not occur, measure coil wire resistance. If resistance exceeds 7000 ohms per foot replace wire.
4. If coil wire is satisfactory, inspect coil for signs of carbon tracking or external damage and inspect distributor shaft with engine cranking to ensure distributor shaft rotation. Proceed to test 2.
