Ignition Coil: Service and Repair


Removal

1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Pull the coil secondary lead off the coil tower, being careful to pull the connector boot and not the wire.
3. Pull the ECA and ignition module primary connectors off the coil primary ground terminal tabs.
4. Push back the primary positive terminal boot and disconnect the ignition module suppression capacitor and battery positive leads.
5. Loosen the mounting bracket clamp screw until the coil is free to slide out.

Installation

1. Slide the coil into the mounting bracket while positioning the primary terminals for convenient connection tighten the mounting bracket clamp screw.
2. Connect the battery positive, suppression capacitor and ignition module positive leads to the primary coil "+" terminal.
3. Push the ECA and ignition module ground connectors onto the primary ground terminal tabs.
4. Plug the secondary coil lead into the coil tower, using firm pressure for a tight boot seal.
5. Connect negative battery cable.
