Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Circuit Operation

OPERATION
With the Ignition Switch in "START" or "RUN", voltage is applied to the Manual Lever Position (MLP) Switch from Fuse 26 (Electron Ign) in the I/P Fuse Panel. Fuse 20 (Rly Coil) in the I/P Fuse Panel applies voltage to the Speed Control Hold Relay and the Cruise Cont On/Off Switch.

When the MLP Switch is in "P" (Park) or "N" (Neutral), it applies voltage to the Inhibit Relay.

When the Cruise Cont On/Off Switch is in the "N" (Neutral) position, it applies ground to the Speed Control Hold Relay, the Inhibit Relay, the Speed Control Disengage Switch, and Pins L and J of C249 of the Speed Control Module. The Speed Control Hold Relay does not energize and the Speed Control Module does not engage the system.

When the Cruise Cont On/Off Switch is "ON", voltage is applied to the Speed Control Hold Relay, the Inhibit Relay, the Speed Control Disengage Switch, and pins L and J of C249 of the Speed Control Module. The Speed Control Hold Relay energizes and applies voltage to the Inhibit Relay and pin J of C249 of the Speed Control Module. The Inhibit Relay applies voltage to the Speed Control Disengage Switch. The Speed Control Disengage Switch then applies voltage to pin L of C249 of the Speed Control Module. With voltage at pins L and J of C249 of the Speed Control Module, the system engages and the On Indicator LED illuminates. If the Inhabit Relay is energized when the MLP Switch applies voltage to it, or the brake pedal is depressed and the Speed Control Disengage Switch is opened, voltage is removed from pin L of C249 of the Speed Control Module. The Speed Control Module disengages the system.

When the Cruise Cont On/Off Switch is in "OFF", neither voltage nor ground is applied to the Speed Control Hold Relay, the Inhibit Relay, the Speed Control Disengage Switch, and pins L and J of C249 of the Speed Control Module. The Speed Control Hold Relay does not energize and the Speed Control Module disengages the system.
