Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Description and Operation

Intake Air Temperature Sensor Location:

PURPOSE
To provide the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with a varying voltage signal (input) that corresponds to changes in intake air temperature. The input signal is used by the PCM in calculations for air/fuel ratio, fuel pressure, purge control, and idle speed.

OPERATION
The sensor is a negative temperature coefficient thermistor. As temperature increases, resistance decreases. Cold air is more dense than warm air.
