Distributor: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
Distributes secondary spark to the correct cylinder.

OPERATION
The Distributor is camshaft driven and uses no centrifugal or vacuum advance. Rotation is counterclockwise as seen from the LH side of the vehicle. Ignition timing is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The secondary voltage is received from the ignition coil and distributed, via the distributor cap and distributor rotor to each spark plug wire.

CONSTRUCTION
The distributor houses the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS), Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) and rotor.
