Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Description and Operation

Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor:

PURPOSE
The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor measures the airflow passing into the throttle body, which helps to determine the injection pulse width timing.

LOCATION
Located between the Air Cleaner and the Throttle Body

OPERATION
The internal element detects the amount of air and notifies the PCM with a varying voltage input signal. Measurements are made in such a manner that the PCM receives a voltage input signal varied by the amount of heat emitting from the heated resistor placed in the stream of the intake air. This input signal helps to determine the injection pulse width timing.
