Instrument Cluster:
PURPOSE
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is used to warn the driver of some engine control malfunctioning in California vehicles. For non-California vehicles, the MIL warns the driver only if the crankshaft position sensor or the Central Processor Unit (CPU) of the PCM is malfunctioning. This lamp is also used to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes from the PCM describing circuit failures (California and non-California vehicles).
LOCATION
The MIL is indicated as a CHECK ENGINE lamp on the instrument cluster.
