Distributor Cap: Testing and Inspection



1. Remove the screws securing the cap to the distributor.
2. Remove the ignition wires from the cap.

NOTE: When removing the spark plug wires from the distributor cap, grasp the spark plug wire boot by hand, and remove it with a twisting and pulling motion. Do not pull on the spark plug wire.

3. Inspect the cap for cracks or damage due to heat or arcing.
4. Inspect the terminals inside the cap for excessive corrosion and damage.
5. Inspect the ignition wire terminals for excessive corrosion.
If the corrosion cannot be removed with reasonable measures, replace the cap.
6. Replace the cap if it fails any of the above tests or inspections.
