Spark Plug: Service and Repair

Removing Spark Plug Boot:





REMOVAL
1. Remove the ignition wire from the spark plug with a twisting and pulling motion.

NOTE: Pull on the boot only. Do not pull on the wire.

2. Using compressed air, blow out the area at the base of the spark plug to remove any debris.

CAUTION: Use eye protection.

3. Using a 5/8" (16mm) flex socket and extension, remove the spark plugs (counterclockwise rotation).




INSTALLATION
1. Using a suitable tool, check and adjust the spark plug gap to .031-.035 in. (0.8-0.9 mm).
2. Using a suitable rubber hose or designated tool, start the spark plugs by hand (clockwise rotation).
3. Torque the spark plugs to 14-22 ft.lbs. (20-29 Nm).
4. Apply a small amount of di-electric compound to the inside of the spark plug boots.
5. Reinstall the spark plug boots making sure the "guide" pins for the boots are properly aligned.
