Expansion Block/Orifice Tube: Service and Repair









Special Tools


REMOVAL
1. Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery







2. Remove the bolt.







3. Remove the nut.







4. Disconnect the front condenser to evaporator line spring lock coupling.

CAUTION: Plug all ports to prevent contamination from dirt or moisture.







5. Locate the A/C evaporator core orifice.
- For a fixed orifice tube, perform Steps 6 and 7.
- For a broken orifice tube, perform Steps 8 and 9.







6. Engage the Fixed Orifice Tube Remover/Replacer to the A/C evaporator core orifice.







7. Hold the tool T-handle stationary and rotate the tool body to remove the A/C evaporator core orifice.







8. To remove a broken A/C evaporator core orifice, screw the end of the Broken Orifice Tube Extractor into the broken A/C evaporator core orifice.







9. Hold the tool T-handle stationary and rotate the tool body to remove the broken A/C evaporator core orifice.

INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate and install the O-ring seals on the A/C evaporator core orifice.
- Use PAG Compressor Oil Motorcraft YN-12b F2AZ-19477-AC or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.







2. Place the A/C evaporator core orifice into the Fixed Orifice Tube Remover/Replacer.







3. Insert the A/C evaporator core orifice into the condenser to evaporator tube until seated.







4. Remove the Fixed Orifice Tube Remover/Replacer.
5. Install the condenser to evaporator tube.
