Vehicle Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Remove the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).





1 Disconnect the electrical connector.
2 Remove the bolt.
3 Remove the VSS.

Installation

1. NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Lubricate O-ring seal with MERCON (R) Multipurpose Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-2QDX meeting MERCON (R) specification plus 2% Friction Modifier CXAZ-1 9B546-A meeting Ford specification EST-M2C1 IX-A.
