Removing and Installing/Replacing Steering Angle Sensor

32 31 082 - Removing and installing/replacing steering angle sensor

Important!
There will no longer be an end stop once the steering spindle has been separated from the steering gear. The steering wheel can be turned without restriction.
To prevent the coil spring in the steering column from being damaged:
- Turn steering wheel to straight-ahead position.
- Lock steering lock -> remove ignition key.

Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Detach lower section of steering spindle from steering column Removing and Installing/Replacing Lower Section of Steering Spindle

After completing work:
Carry out coding/programming.
Observe following IDC specifications:
- Programming
- Coding
- If necessary, car & key memory
- CD "CIP"
The steering angle sensor must be encoded as also necessary after replacement. This must be followed by a steering angle sensor adjustment, refer to MINI diagnostic program.

Disconnect plug connection and detach steering angle sensor in direction shown.

Installation Note:
Make sure the steering sensor is fitted on the locator pin (1) and the contact surface (2) is aligned centrally.

Make sure that the screw hole in the lower steering column and the recess in the upper steering shaft are aligned flush. When assembled correctly, the upper steering shaft must be in position (1).
