Idle Speed Motor Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

1. With engine at normal operating temperature, connect suitable voltmeter to both ends of MPS connector, Fig. 11.
2. Turn ignition switch to On position, then note voltmeter reading.
3. If voltmeter reading is 1.8 - 2.2 volts, MPS is satisfactory. Voltmeter reading will change to .8 - 1.2 volts after 15 seconds or more have passed.
4. Turn ignition switch to Off position, then disconnect MPS electrical connector.
5. Connect ohmmeter between MPS terminals 3 and 4, then measure MPS resistance. Resistance should be 4 - 6 k ohms. Replace sensor as required.
