Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Idle Speed and Timing Adjustment

1. Run the cold engine at fast idle until the coolant temperature is 85 to 95 degrees C. (185 to 205 degrees F.)

2. Run the engine for more than 5 seconds at an engine speed of 2,000 to 3000 RPM.

3. Using a tachometer, check the idle speed. If the idle speed is not between 650 - 850 readjust the idle speed using the idle speed adjusting screw (Figure 18) No. 1 (SAS1).

4. When the carburetor idle speed has been verified adjust the basic ignition timing to 8 degrees BTDC.*

* This is a new timing specification.

5. Recheck and adjust idle speed.
