Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Choke Shim Installation Check

1. Check the installation of the choke shim. As shown in Figure 11, use a flashlight and mirror to visually check the position of the choke shim. The shim should be firmly seated between the thermo wax element's plunger and the choke adjustment screw. If the choke shim is properly installed, continue with the Sub-EGR Valve inspection procedure.

2. If the choke shim is missing or installed incorrectly, the carburetor must be removed and a new shim installed. The shim is contained in the EMR-90-009 emission kit (see parts information for the correct kit number).
