Heater Core: Service and Repair


Front

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Place temperature control lever in Hot position, then drain cooling system.
3. Disconnect heater hoses from heater core. Plug heater core fittings to prevent coolant spillage.
4. Remove steering wheel using suitable puller.
5. Remove heater control knob and heater fan switch knob, then the center console and instrument cluster. Refer to ``Instrument Cluster, Replace'' procedure.
6. Remove lap heater ducts and release cable bracket.
7. Remove defroster nozzle at temperature control cable side, then disconnect all control cables from control assembly.
8. Remove heater control assembly attaching screws, then pull out assembly slightly.
9. Disconnect heater fan switch electrical connector, then remove heater control assembly.
10. Remove fuse cover, then the fuse block attaching screws. Push fuse block into instrument panel.
11. Disconnect front speaker wire connectors, if equipped.
12. Remove plug from center of instrument panel, then remove both de-mister grilles using suitable tool.
13. Remove glove box stopper, then pull glove box rearward.
14. Disconnect heater relay from front wiring harness.
15. Remove instrument panel attaching bolts, then the instrument panel.
16. Remove center ventilator duct, defroster duct and rear heater duct.
17. Remove heater unit attaching nuts, then the heater unit.
18. Remove heater control lever arm, then the water valve cover.
19. Remove heater pipe and water valve.
20. Disconnect control arm linkage, then remove control arm.
21. Move heater core sideways and remove from heater unit. Do not remove heater core felt when removing heater core.
22. Reverse procedure to install.

Rear

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain cooling system, then disconnect heater hoses from heater assembly.
3. Disconnect heater assembly electrical connectors.
4. Remove heater assembly cover, then the heater assembly.
5. Disconnect joint hoses, then remove water valve and piping.
6. Disconnect fan switch and blower motor electrical connectors.
7. Remove heater fan switch from water valve.
8. Remove fan and blower motor assembly from heater core, then the core attaching clips.
9. Remove heater nozzle, heater core and core cover.
10. Reverse procedure to install.
