TRANSMISSION MODEL IDENTIFICATION CHANGE
PURPOSE
The number of transmission models is increasing. To make identification of transmission models easier, a new identification code has been established. This bulletin describes the components and applications of the new transmission identification code.
SCHEDULE OF CHANGES
Transmission models already being produced (KM--, AW--, JM--) will be given new identification codes beginning with the 1990 models.
KM160 series transmissions will keep the old identification until 1991.
New transmissions developed and built in or after December 1987 will have the new identification code. This means that some late 1988 vehicles will have transmissions with the new identification code.
The transmission identification code can be found on the vehicle information code plate at the top center of the firewall.
EXPLANATION OF NEW TRANSMISSION CODES
The examples in Figure 1 show the meanings of each digit of the new transmission code.
CHANGES OF EXISTING IDENTIFICATION CODES
The table shows the new transmission identification codes and the old codes they replace.
