PURPOSE

A service replacement air mode control cable is required when replacing a control assembly or an air mode control cable in 1989 Galant vehicles. The new mode control cable with a brown colored sheath has a larger diameter inner wire that is stronger/stiffer than the earlier, black sheathed cable.

When replacing a control assembly (Figure 1) on a 1989 Galant, make sure the mode control cable in the new assembly has a brown sheath. If it does not, replace the mode control cable with a brown one. The easiest way to determine which cable is the mode control cable is to turn the mode control knob back and forth and observe which cable moves (Figure 2).
