Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Discharge refrigerant from system, then disconnect low pressure suction hose from cooling unit outlet fitting. Plug openings to prevent contamination.
3. Disconnect liquid line pipe from cooling unit inlet fitting. Plug openings to prevent contamination.
4. Remove grommet from inlet and outlet pipes.
5. Remove instrument panel lower cover, then the glove box.
6. Disconnect A/C wire harness from cooling unit.
7. Remove drain hose from cooling unit.
8. Remove attaching bolts and nuts, then the cooling unit.
9. Remove clip between inlet and outlet pipes, Fig. 20.
10. Remove clips securing case halves.
11. Remove upper case half.
12. Remove thermostat.
13. Remove evaporator from lower case.
14. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Adjust position of cooling unit so that its connections align with those of heater unit and blower unit.
b. If evaporator is replaced, add 1.6 oz. of suitable oil to compressor.
