Ignition Switch: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove plug and knee protector, Fig. 6.
3. Remove hood lock release handle.
4. Remove upper and lower column covers.
5. Remove ignition key illumination light.
6. Insert key in ignition lock cylinder and turn to ACC position.
7. Using a Phillips tip screwdriver or equivalent, push lockpin of ignition lock cylinder inward and then pull ignition lock cylinder out, Fig. 7.
8. Remove lap cooler and shower duct.
9. Remove cable band.
10. On models with automatic transmission, remove key interlock cable and slide lever.
11. On all models, remove ignition switch segment.
12. Reverse procedure to install, installing the slide lever and key interlock cable as follows:
a. With ignition key removed, install slide lever to ignition lock cylinder.
b. Connect key interlock cable to slide lever as shown in Fig. 8.
c. Apply a light coat of multi-purpose grease to areas shown.
d. Ensure proper operation of key interlock system.
