Ignition Lock: Service and Repair

1. Disable airbag system as describer under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. On 1990 Sigma models, tape and isolate battery ground cable terminal. Wait at least 30 seconds before proceeding.
4. On all models, remove steering column shrouds.
5. On 1989 models, cut groove in attaching bolt head using a suitable hacksaw, then remove bolts, Fig. 2.
6. On 1990-92 models, cut attaching bolts at steering lock bracket side using a suitable hacksaw, then remove bolts, Fig. 3.
7. On all models, remove ignition switch electrical connectors, then the lock assembly.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Temporarily install ignition lock in alignment with column boss and check for proper switch operation.
b. Steering lock bracket should be replaced when installing new ignition switch.
c. Install special ignition lock attaching bolts and tighten until heads twist off.
d. On 1990 Sigma models, ensure no one is inside of vehicle, then rearm airbag system as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
