Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Emissions Maintenance Light: Service and Repair

1. On some carburetted models, an "EGR" or "MAINTENANCE REQUIRED" warning light in the dash will come on as reminder to have the EGR system serviced and/or the oxygen sensor replaced. EGR service should be each 50,000 miles and oxygen sensor replacement should be every 80,000 miles.
2. After servicing or replacing the components, the mileage counter must be reset. On some models, the reset switch is located on back of the instrument cluster near the speedo cable. To reset the switch, slide the lever to the opposite side.
3. On other models, the reset switch is located on the front of the instrument cluster in the lower right corner. To gain access, remove the instrument cluster trim. Resetting this switch is accomplished by sliding the lever to the opposite side.
