Starter Motor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly, if applicable.
3. On models equipped with Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS), remove ECS compressor assembly.
4. On all models, disconnect starter cables.
5. Remove starter mounting bolts, then the starter.

INSTALLATION

1. Before mounting starter, clean the mating surfaces of starter and the engine.
2. Install starter and torque mounting bolts to 20-25 ft. lbs.
3. Install air cleaner assembly, if applicable.
4. Connect starter cables.
5. On models equipped with Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS), install ECS compressor assembly.
6. On all models, connect battery ground cable.
