Ignition Switch: Service and Repair

Remove components in order as they appear, Fig. 3, noting the following:
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove steering lock cylinder (9) as follows:
a. Insert key in lock cylinder and turn to ACC position.
b. Using a small screwdriver, push lock cylinder lockpin in, Fig. 1, then remove lock cylinder.
3. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. On models with automatic transaxle, with ignition key in Lock position or removed, install slide lever (7) in steering lock cylinder (9), Fig. 4.
b. Connect key interlock cable (11) to slide lever (12), Fig. 4.
c. Apply a light coat of multi-purpose grease as shown, Fig. 4.
d. With ignition switch Off or with key removed and brake pedal depressed, ensure shift lever cannot be moved from Park position.
e. On all models, connect battery ground cable.
