Ignition Lock: Service and Repair

Refer to Technician Safety Information for Air Bag Arming and Disarming.

1. Remove steering wheel as outlined under Steering Wheel.
2. Remove instrument panel lower cover.

3. Remove plug, then remove hood lock release handle, Fig. 6.
4. Remove upper and lower column covers.
5. On models equipped with air bag, remove clock spring. Refer to Technician Safety Information.
6. Remove ignition key illumination light.
7. Insert key in ignition lock cylinder and turn to ACC position.

8. Using a Phillips tip screwdriver, or equivalent, push lockpin of ignition lock cylinder inward, then pull ignition lock cylinder out, Fig. 8.
9. Remove lap cooler, foot shower duct, cable band, key interlock cable and slide lever.
10. Remove ignition switch segment.
11. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. With ignition key removed, install slide lever to ignition lock cylinder, then connect key interlock cable to slide lever as shown, Fig. 9.
b. Apply a light coat of multi-purpose grease to areas shown, then ensure proper operation of key interlock system.
