Fig. 5 Magnetic Switch Inspection:
1. Disconnect field coil wire from "M" terminal of magnetic switch, Fig. 5.
2. Connect a 12 volt battery between "S" and "M" terminals. This test must be performed in less than 10 seconds to prevent coil from burning out.
Pinion Gap Adjustment:
3. Measure pinion gap with a suitable feeler gauge, Fig. 6.
4. If pinion gap is not as specified under Starter Specifications, adjust by adding or removing gaskets between magnetic switch and front bracket.
