Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Throttle Position Sensor Replacement Procedure

1. Obtain a new Throttle Position Sensor, part number M04874430.

2. Remove and discard the two screws holding the TPS to the throttle body. Replacement screws are provided with the new Throttle Position Sensor

3. Remove the O-ring from the throttle body casting. Discard the O-ring.

4. Lubricate the new O-ring provided with the new TPS. Apply a drop or two of vegetable oil and smear it over the O-ring. Allow excess to drain off. CAUTION: Do not use engine oil for it will not properly lubricate the O-ring.

5. Install the O-ring in the groove in the throttle body.

CAUTION:
Do not install the O-ring on the TPS. It can be damaged when the TPS is installed.

6. Install the TPS with the screws provided. Check for resistance and proper operation as described on Pages 13A-123 and 13A-124 of the 1996 Eclipse Service Manual, Vol. 1
