Compressor Fitting HVAC: Service and Repair


1. Discharge system.
2. Remove discharge valve cover mounting screws, then remove thermal protector.
3. Gently tap cover to loosen from rubber coated metal gasket and remove cover and gasket.
4. Remove discharge valve and valve guard.
5. Remove O-ring on discharge valve cover. Clean cylinder surface. Avoid dropping dirt or foreign matter through discharge ports into compressor.
6. Ensure that gasket contact surface is not damaged.
7. Check discharge valve for bends, cracks, or scratches and replace as necessary.
8. Coat new O-ring with refrigerant oil and fit into groove on discharge valve cover.
9. Place valve on cylinder ports so that valve fingers contact sealing surface.
10. Place valve guard, aligned with valve, to cover port holes.
11. Secure assembly, torquing retaining screw to 8-12 ft. lbs.
12. Coat gasket with refrigerant oil, then install gasket, valve cover, thermal protector, and bracket.
13. Torque valve cover retaining bolt to 8-12 ft. lbs.
