EGR Control Solenoid: Testing and Inspection

EGR/Canister Purge Control Solenoid Test:

1. Hook up battery power as shown in the image.

CAUTION: Pay attention to the polarity of the leads. The solenoid can be damaged if the polarity is reversed.

2. With power applied to terminals 1 & 2:

^ Vacuum SHOULD pass through ports A & B
^ Vacuum SHOULD NOT pass through ports A & C

3. With power removed from terminals 1 & 2:

^ Vacuum SHOULD NOT pass through ports A & B
^ Vacuum SHOULD pass through ports A & C

4. If the solenoid fails any part of the test, replace it.
