Water Pump: Service and Repair


V6 ENGINE

1. Disconnect battery ground cables and drain cooling system.
2. Remove fan clutch and fan, then disconnect radiator inlet hose at radiator.
3. Remove upper radiator support.
4. Remove drive belt and water pump pulley.
5. Remove vacuum pump and bracket assembly, then the cruise control servo mounting bracket, if equipped.
6. Remove power steering pump and brackets and position aside. Do not disconnect hoses from pump.
7. Disconnect heater and radiator outlet hoses at water pump, then loosen thermostat bypass hose clamp.
8. Remove water pump to front cover and water pump and front cover to block retaining bolts.
9. Remove water pump from front cover.
10. Reverse procedure to install. Coat gaskets with suitable sealer and water pump and front cover to block retaining bolts with primer and adhesive, Part No. 1052624, or equivalent. Failure to use the above mentioned primer and adhesive may cause coolant leaks and/or loss of bolt torque.
