Removal and Replacement

1. Remove transmission oil level dipstick. Remove catalytic converter support bracket, if equipped.

2. Raise car and remove detent cable from link. Plug hole.

3. Disconnect oil cooler lines at transmission.

4. Remove flywheel cover pan and mark converter and flywheel for reassembly. Remove three flywheel to converter bolts. Disconnect transmission control spark switch.

5. Disconnect vacuum modulator line. Remove speedometer clip and driven gear. Plug hole.

6. Disconnect shift linkage.

7. Remove propeller shaft.

8. Support transmission with a suitable jack and remove crossmember.

9. Lower transmission slightly and remove transmission to engine bolts.

10. Remove oil level indicator tube and clip holding detent cable to tube.

11. Lower transmission being careful not to damage cooler lines, detent cable, modulator line and shift linkage.

12. Reverse procedure to install.
