The front wheel bearing is a sealed unit bearing. The bearing cannot be adjusted or repacked. There are darkened areas on the bearing assembly. These darkened areas are from a heat treatment process and do not indicate need for bearing replacement, Fig. 8.
To check wheel bearing assembly for looseness, free brake pads from disc or remove calipers. Install two lug nuts to secure disc to bearing. Mount dial indicator as shown in Fig. 9, then rock disc and note indicator reading. If looseness exceeds .005 in. replace hub and bearing assembly.
