A/T - 3254L No 4th Gear/Possible Governor Problem

SUBJECT: 325 4L

PROBLEM: No 4th Gear

CAUSE: May be governor




To check, remove governor and plug the hole at the bottom.
This is the hole below the sealing ring. Re-install the governor and cover Start engine with wheels off the ground and put selector in Drive. If the governor is causing the problem, this should give a 4th gear start.

To verify a 4th gear start, run vehicle to approximately 30 mph and pull selector to D3. If the transmission was in 4th gear, a downshift to 3rd will be felt.

Many governors that cause this problem will look good visually, but governor replacement is necessary to correct the problem.
