Intake Manifold: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner and heat stove pipe.
3. Disconnect PCV valve and hose from throttle body unit.
4. Drain engine coolant, then disconnect fuel lines from manifold.
5. Disconnect electrical connectors and throttle linkage from throttle body unit.
6. Disconnect transaxle downshift cable and cruise control linkage, if equipped.
7. Unfasten throttle linkage and bellcrank and position aside.
8. Disconnect heater hose from manifold.
9. On 1985---86 models, remove alternator bracket or upper power steering pump bracket, then the ignition coil.
10. On all models, remove intake manifold attaching bolts and the manifold.
11. Reverse procedure to install. Torque attaching bolts to specifications in sequence shown in Figs. 4 and 5. On 1987---88 models, torque all attaching bolts to 25 ft. lbs.
