Timing Cover: Service and Repair


1. Remove drive belts, then the inner fender splash shield.
2. Remove crankshaft pulley attaching bolts, then slide pulley and hub from shaft.
3. Remove front cover attaching bolts and the front cover.
4. Clean gasket surfaces on cylinder block and front cover.
5. Install oil pan front seal in front cover, then apply a 3/8 inch bead of RTV sealant (3/16 inch thick) to joint at oil pan and front cover.
6. Apply a 1/4 inch bead of RTV sealant (1/8 inch thick) to front cover and cylinder block mating surfaces.
7. Install centering tool No. J-34995 or equivalent in front cover oil seal bore.
8. Install and partially tighten 2 opposing front cover screws with centering tool in place.
9. Install remaining cover-to-block screws and torque to 90 inch lbs.
10. Install hub, pulley and splash shield.
