Fig. 6 Exhaust manifold bolt tightening sequence:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly and heat stove tube.
3. Unfasten alternator upper mounting brackets and position aside.
4. Disconnect oxygen sensor electrical connector.
5. Raise and support vehicle.
6. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold, then lower vehicle.
7. Remove exhaust manifold attaching bolts, then the manifold and gasket.
8. Reverse procedure to install. Torque attaching bolts in sequence, Fig. 6. On 1985 models, torque all exhaust manifold attaching bolts to 44 ft. lbs. On 1986---88 models, torque bolts 1, 2, 6 and 7 to 32 ft. lbs. and bolts 3, 4 and 5 to 37 ft. lbs.
