Timing Chain: Service and Repair
TOOL REQUIRED:
J 5825-A Crankshaft Sprocket Puller
Camshaft And Components:
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Air cleaner.
3. Fan, shroud.
4. Coolant pump. Refer to Cooling System / Water Pump /Service and Repair
5. Torsional damper.
6. Front cover.

7. Align the timing marks.
8. Camshaft sprocket bolts.
9. Camshaft sprocket and timing chain. The sprocket is a light interference fit on the. camshaft. Tap the sprocket on its lower edge to loosen it.
10. Crankshaft sprocket (if required). Use J 5825A
TOOL REQUIRED:
J 5590 Crankshaft Sprocket Installer
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Crankshaft sprocket (if removed). Use J 5590. Make sure the timing mark faces outside.
2. Camshaft sprocket and timing chain.
IMPORTANT:
^ Align the timing marks on the camshaft sprocket and crankshaft sprocket.
3. Camshaft sprocket bolts.
TIGHTEN
^ Bolts to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.).
4. Front cover.
TIGHTEN
^ Bolts to 12Nm (106 lbs. in.).
5. Torsional damper. Refer to Engine / Cylinder Block Assembly / Harmonic Balancer / Specifications /Specifications
6. Coolant pump. Refer to Cooling System / Water Pump /Service and Repair
7. Fan, shroud.
8. Air cleaner.
9. Negative battery cable.
