Starter Motor: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove A/C compressor brace to engine block retaining nut.
3. Remove A/C compressor brace to A/C compressor retaining bolt.
4. Disconnect wiring harness from retainer and position out of the way.
5. Remove cover from starter wiring, then disconnect wiring from the starter solenoid.
6. Disconnect oil pressure gauge sensor electrical connector.
7. Using pressure gauge removal tool No. J 35748 or equivalent, remove oil pressure gauge sensor.
8. Remove starter motor to engine block retaining bolt.
9. Remove shim and starter motor from engine block.
10. Reverse procedure to install, torque starter to engine block retaining bolt to 32 ft. lbs. and A/C compressor nut and bolt to 23 ft. lbs.
