Engine Control Module: Service and Repair

*** This procedure has been updated according to Technical Service Bulletin #338313, dated Jan. 1994.


Remove or Disconnect:
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Disable Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system, refer to "Disabling/Enabling the SIR System" Disabling/Enabling the SIR System
3. PCM from mounting bracket. Pull bottom of PCM rearward over locking tabs and downward to remove.
4. PCM connectors.

5. If PCM is being replaced, remove PROM for installation in new PCM.

6. Remove PROM by using thumb and first finger. Gently squeeze each end of the blue calibrator unit.

Install or Connect:
1. If PCM is being replaced, install PROM in PCM by pressing on the PROM carrier, not on the PROM, until PROM is firmly seated in the socket.
2. Install PROM access cover
3. Carefully install PCM connectors to PCM before installing PCM into bracket.
4. Install PCM into bracket. Make sure PCM is up over locking tabs and locks into place.
5. Enable Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system, refer to "Disabling/Enabling the SIR System" Disabling/Enabling the SIR System
6. Connect negative battery cable
