Pick-Up Coil: Testing and Inspection

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Ignition key "OFF."
2. Distributor cap by simultaneously depressing and rotating screws counterclockwise 180 degrees. Lift cap from housing.
3. Screws retaining rotor; rotor from shaft assembly.
4. Pick-up coil connector from module.

TEST
^ STEP 1 - Test for short to ground by connecting leads of ohmmeter between ground and one terminal of the pick-up coil connector.
- Should read infinite at all time. If not, install a new pick-up coil.

^ STEP 2- Test pick-up coil resistance by connecting leads of ohmmeter across terminals of pick-up coil connector.
- Should read one steady valve between 500-1500 ohms as leads are flexed by hand. If not, install a new pick-up coil.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Pick-up coil connector to module.
2. Rotor and screws. Tighten screws to 1 Nm (9 lb. in.).
3. Distributor cap by simultaneously depressing and rotating screws clockwise 180 degrees.
