Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair









Remove or Disconnect
1. Raise vehicle and support catalytic converter. Do not let converter hang from exhaust manifold rear pipe (Y-pipe).
2. Post converter oxygen sensor heat shield.
3. Oxygen sensors.
4. Cut intermediate pipe at the converter as shown in the accompanying image. Cut as close to weld as tool will permit.
5. Exhaust manifold rear pipe flange holts.
6. Converter.
7. Portions of the converter outlet remaining in the intermediate pipe.

Install or Connect
1. Converter.

NOTE: Position intermediate pipe for needed clearance during converter installation.

2. Converter seal.
3. Exhaust manifold rear pipe flange bolts.
Tighten
^ Rear pipe flange bolts to 24 Nm (15 lb. ft.).
4. "U" bolt type clamp.
Tighten
^ Clamp nuts to 40 Nm (30 lb. ft.).
5. Oxygen sensor.
6. Oxygen sensor heat shield.
