Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Struts or Shock Absorbers Weak

1. Inspect and adjust the tire pressures to the pressures shown on the Tire Placard.
2. Note the load conditions under which the vehicle is normally driven.
3. Before proceeding to the next step, ride in the vehicle with the owner in order to ensure that you understand the complaint.
4. Test each strut damper in turn by quickly pushing down, then lifting up the comers of the bumpers. Use the same amount of effort on each test. Note the resistance on the compression and the rebound for each strut. Compare the resistance with a similar vehicle with acceptable ride quality. The struts on both vehicles should have the same resistance.
