Vehicle Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the electrical connector at the vehicle speed sensor.
3. Remove the retaining bolt (131) and the sensor (130). Twisting the sensor while pulling outward will aid in removal.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





1. Install the vehicle speed sensor (130) and the retaining bolt (131). Install a new O-ring seal on sensor if necessary.
^ Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
2. Install the electrical connector at the sensor.
3. Lower the vehicle.

Case Extension Axle Seal (Right) Replacement

- J39051-1 Axle Shaft Seal Installer Set

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the right drive axle.

Important Be careful not to damage the transmission case extension when removing the seal with a screwdriver.

2. Remove the drive axle seal (125). First use a screwdriver to pry outer the seal from the transmission. Use pliers in order to remove the remaining housing of drive axle seal from the transmission.
3. Inspect the drive axle seal mating surface on the drive axle housing for corrosion, grooves or nicks.
4. Clean the drive axle seal mating surface on the drive axle housing with crocus cloth.

Installation Procedure

Important Be careful not to damage the transmission case extension when installing the drive axle seal.





1. Install the right-hand drive axle seal (125) using the J39051-1
2. Install the drive axle.
