Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

Catalytic Converter Replacement

Removal Procedure
1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.





2. Disconnect the oxygen sensor wiring harness.
3. Support the 3-way catalytic converter.
4. Disconnect the intermediate pipe from the 3-way catalytic converter.





5. Remove the exhaust flex decoupler (4) from the exhaust manifold (1).
6. Remove the exhaust manifold (2) seal and the 3-way catalytic converter seal.
7. If replacing catalytic converter, remove oxygen sensor.
8. Clean the flange surfaces.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the exhaust manifold seal (2) and the 3-way catalytic converter seal.
2. If the oxygen sensor was previously removed, install the oxygen sensor.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the exhaust flex decoupler (4) to the exhaust manifold (1).
Tighten the nuts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).





4. Connect the intermediate pipe to the 3-way catalytic converter.
Tighten the bolts to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.).
5. Connect the oxygen sensor harness connector.
6. Lower the vehicle.
