Transfer Case: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect back-up light switch electrical connector.
2. Remove steel ball, if equipped.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove plug from right side of transfer case assembly, then the select spring and select plunger.
5. Remove control lever assembly and gasket.
6. On 5 speed manual transmission, remove plugs from the top of the adapter, then withdraw resistance spring, steel ball, neutral return springs and plungers.
7. Remove transfer case to transmission adapter attaching bolts.
8. Drive out spring pin from change shifter assembly, if equipped.
9. Remove four bolts and two nuts attaching transfer case to adapter assembly.
10. Remove transfer case assembly from adapter and shifter from control shaft, if equipped.
11. Reverse procedure to install.
